HOW TO PROTECT OURSELVES FROM CYBER ATTACKS?

Jewish Link Mexico and Israel - The cybersecurity expert Alexis Reimers spoke with us to clarify terms such as “hacker” or “pranker” and to offer us important security tips so as not to be victims of attacks and cyber frauds.

In the impressive curriculum of Alexis Reimer are solid academic credentials, obtained in universities such as ITAM, UNAM and the University of Tel Aviv, and include fields such as nuclear facilities security or military intelligence. He has been a government consultant on cybersecurity issues and has dedicated his professional life to understanding, mastering and innovating in the field of security.

This word, security, is for Reimers a vocation. In an exclusive interview, the expert realizes how this passion arose since his school years at Tarbut College and, later, was reflected in the work he did in a kibbutz, like lifeguards in a huge pool.

His father, Ashkenazi from Costa Rica, decided to stay in Mexico and dedicated himself to building infrastructure. His mother, of Sephardic origin, converged morally with his father on three fundamental issues: “the value of work, the value of education and the value of social responsibility, of tikun olam, of not doing to the other what you would not like that they did to you, and with that this vocation is born, ”he says.

But to advance in a world as complex as that of large-scale cybersecurity, more than a vocation is needed and Reimers had luck on his side. Sure, understood in a very peculiar way.

Let's call it "mazal", let's call it luck , in all the extension of the word "mazal", which comes from makom , the place, zmal , time and lomer , to know what to do. It is the same definition that we have in the Mazal Talmud that Napoleon took to explain what it was to be lucky. You have to be in place and in time but not only the opportunity has to come to you - because many opportunities come to us every day - (you also have to) know what to do, be able to identify it or have the knowledge to be able to capitalize on it.

This is how Reimers was able to take advantage of the rise of the modern internet to begin his work as a consultant for the Mexican government.

“There were important security issues for the country where I started to get hooked and a year I was already protecting the internet infrastructure, which was being born today, for the main secretariats at the federal Executive level, because it was the time that there was a lot of vulnerability. ”

Among its first achievements, the creation of the first civil national C4, which continues to operate today, stands out.

“The Mexican government sent me to see several of these C4 around the world, where we took that experience and capitalized on doing this center. From there I formed a team that until today we all join, very dedicated people, very capable, also in those times I have my partner, Adolfo Grego, and from there we depart on this ship. ”
