Azure Government Secret expansion

Microsoft also announced several new services in the Azure Government Secret; for application developers, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Azure Container Instances help you deploy and manage applications in containers more easily.

Azure Sentinel and Azure Security Center intelligent security analysis services are also available from Azure Government Secret. Together with Azure Monitor, these services help the customer collect, analyze and act on telemetry data from their Azure and on-premises environments.


Customers, including those from the United States Department of Defense, law enforcement and other agencies, are using Azure Government Secret. The service is authorized by both the Department of Defense Impact Level 6 (IL6) and the Intelligence Community Directive (ICD) 503.


Microsoft is also announcing availability zones for the Azure government. Availability zones, built to handle data center failures through redundancy and logical isolation of services. The company is also adding its own Azure edge computing devices, including the newly announced Azure Modular Datacenter and robust versions of Azure Stack Hub, Azure Stack Edge Pro and Azure Stack Edge Mini R to its "tactical advantage" portfolio.


The recently announced Azure Modular Datacenter (MDC) provides computing and storage capabilities at a datacenter scale for areas where harsh conditions, interrupted network availability and limited access to specialized infrastructure would normally prohibit cloud computing.


According to the company, the MDC can run separate security enclaves, allowing mission users to operate workloads on multiple data classifications at the same time in a single unit and, like other robust devices, can operate in fully connected scenarios, occasionally connected or completely disconnected.

The Linux System Administrator works to optimize real-time performance requirements and system backups.

The MDC allows government customers to deploy a single piece of critical infrastructure to meet the needs of a wide variety of mission workloads at various levels of classification, all in a self-contained footprint that reduces logistical overhead, the statement says.
